Ian Smith
Research Engineer
Background
Ian Smith joined Galois in 2025 as a Research Engineer. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in 2021 and went on to work at Raytheon and Trail of Bits, where he focused on security-oriented program analyses and vulnerability discovery, with additional work in binary analysis and decompilation.
Ian’s current research interests span security-oriented program analyses, vulnerability discovery techniques, and compiler-toolchain development. He’s been unable to quit Team Fortress 2 since 2012, once dreamed of turning pro at chess before realizing how tough it is, and is a devoted hockey fan.
