Software Engineer
Galois’ technical staff members play a pivotal role in fulfilling the organization’s mission to develop advanced software technology for information assurance. Members may be assigned to one or more projects and are expected to perform in a variety of roles based upon organizational needs and individual talents. The scope of responsibility for technical staff may include proposal generation, requirements gathering, architecture and design, implementation, testing, and validation. Additional duties may include project management, technology research and development, and technical infrastructure development.
Galois’ technical staff members usually work in a small team setting (2-5 members) and must successfully interact with clients, partners, and other employees in a highly cooperative, collaborative, and intellectually challenging environment.
- Roles/Duties
- Architecture and Design: Construct high-level architectural descriptions of software systems and deeper program designs by fleshing out architecture prototypes.
- Implementation: Extend design prototypes through to a finished product, with care taken to ensure robustness and ease of use.
- Testing and Validation: Construct and regularly conduct system, unit, and regression tests.
- Technology Research and Development: Conduct speculative research and development of cutting-edge technology and incorporate that technology in product prototypes.
- Technical Infrastructure Development: Develop (design, implement, and maintain) tools to be used within Galois and develop library code to be shared among projects.
- Qualifications
- Education: A Masters or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science is desirable but not required.
- Experience: A strong programming background; experience with Haskell or other functional programming languages is preferred but not required. We are particularly looking for candidates with experience in product development or programming language design and implementation.
- General Skills
- Must work well with customers, including building rapport, identifying needs, and communicating with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills. Must be highly motivated and able to self-manage to deadlines and quality goals.
